War memorial cycling route

Valkenswaard and Waalre have a special and interesting history when it comes to the Second World War. The German occupation from May 1940 and the fighting preceding the liberation in September 1944 have left their marks on Valkenswaard and Waalre. Visible marks, but also less visible ones.

These cycling routes take you to the war sites in Valkenswaard and Waalre, and the stories behind them. It is important to keep these stories alive and to pass them on: to remember the victims of war and to not take freedom for granted.

But it is not all 'war memories'. These cycling routes also showcase the beautiful surroundings of Valkenswaard and Waalre. There is beautiful nature to enjoy in reserves such as De Malpie, the Leenderbos and De Groote Heide, and nostalgic vibes to experience in the hamlet of 't Loon or while cycling along 'the old railroad track'.

And be sure to stop for a bite and drink in the hospitable villages or establishments along the way.

The route is available from the VVV Tourist Information Office Valkenswaard (€ 4.00)
